Dongduk Women’s University Korean Language Institute

Learn Korean, Earn Seoul!
Located in Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, Dongduk Women’s University has its main campus in Wolgok-dong, Seongbuk-gu. Dongduk Women’s University offers field-oriented education with the College of Design located in fashion street in Cheongdam-dong, the mecca of high fashion; College of Performing Arts located in Daehakro, Dongsung-dong, the root-center of performance art culture; and Dongduk Art Gallery in Insa-dong, a charming neighborhood booming with Korean traditional culture and crafts. Our College of Performing Arts boasts of many alumni and current student entertainers who are leading the Korean popular culture.
Located in the main campus, the Korean Language Institute of Dongduk Women’s University offers quality Korean education to foreign students who aspire to learn Korean language and Korean culture, not only through textbook-oriented curriculum but hands-on programs that allow the students to see, hear, and enjoy the Korean language. Various scholarships and the Korean Language Assistant System are some of the finest advantages of our institute.

Korean Language Program

1. Regular program
This is a program designed for foreigners or overseas Koreans who want to learn Korean systematically for at least three months to enroll in Korean universities or graduate schools or want to be proficient in Korean for their business or career. There are four semesters (spring, summer, fall, and winter) each year, and one semester consists of ten weeks. Students can choose a suitable period to begin their study in Korean. Students can understand and experience Korean culture through special lectures, field trips, cultural lessons program (offered eight times each semester).

∙ Classes are held five days a week for ten weeks, totaling 200 hours.
∙ Special lectures, field trips, cultural experiences are offered a total of eight
times each semester.
∙ The above schedule may vary depending on the circumstances.

※ Academic policies
-Students can complete one level if they attend at least 80% of the entire course and cannot complete the level if their attendance is less than 80%.
-Students can complete one level if their average grade in four subjects (speaking, listening, reading, writing) is above 60.

2) Explanation of Levels in Regular Program

Level 1
· Students can write and read Hangul, the Korean alphabet.
· Students can say basic Korean words and phrases and be able to write and read basic Korean.

Level 2
· Students can pronounce accurately after mastering Korean phonological and pronunciation rules.
· Students acquire basic communication skills and language related manners.

Level 3
· Students can read and write on specific topics.
· Students acquire communication skills needed to get by for everyday life.

Level 4
· Students learn and utilize idiomatic expressions, four-character idioms, and proverbs.
· Students can understand current social issues and can express their own thoughts on them.

Level 5
· Students learn and utilize the required skills in college academics such as writing reports, reflections, and essays, giving presentations, and participating in discussions.
· Students can understand Korean way of thinking, Korean history and its cultural, social issues and also can express their own opinions.

Level 6
· Students can make versatile use of Korean grammar for complex and professional activities.
· Students learn advanced vocabulary and expressions required for college (or graduate school) lectures to prepare reports or papers.

3) Specialized programs of our Korean Language Institute

• Our institute provides a variety of special lectures and cultural experiences. You can observe classes of your major in our university degree program and attend special lectures offered by professors, which can be helpful for your college admission. There are various cultural lessons, field trips, and school excursions that will allow you to understand and experience Korea and the Korean culture.

• You can engage in various exchanges by participating in clubs consisting of our current students and experience Korean college culture by taking part in our school festival.

4) Tuition
∙ Application fee: 60,000 won (not refundable)
∙ Tuition: 1,200,000 won per semester (textbooks/housing not included)
∙ Cultural experience fee: 100,000 won per semester

2. Short-term Program
Korean Language Summer School will help you learn Korean and experience vibrant culture. This summer school allows you to experience the richness of Korean culture while enhancing your Korean skills for 3 weeks during the summer vacation in Korea.
Our program combines specially designed and integrated Korean classes with various cultural activities from Monday to Thursday. In the morning classes, you will intensively study Korean and in the afternoons, you will take culture classes: Korean traditional music class, Korean cooking class, K-Pop music & dance class, and Taekwondo. Every Friday, you will have a field trip to broadcasting station and Lotte World and a two-day trip to the eastern coast and Seorak mountain.

3. Special programs
Courses for preparation for Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) are offered all year. Special courses such as Practical Korean for Immigrants or Korean for College Enrollment are available if requested by students, companies or organizations.

Registration Guidelines

2) Required documents

① one copy of the Application Form provided by the Korean Language Institute. (with photo sized 3.5x4.5cm attached.)
② two photographs sized 3.5x4.5cm.
③ one copy of the passport.
④ one copy of natarized certificate of the last school attended.
(Apostille of Consulate Authentication is required)
⑤ one original copy of transcript of the last school attended.
(Apostille of Consulate Authentication is required.)
⑥ one original copy of certification of balance amounting to USD10,000 or more.
(the balance must be maintained for 6months or longer since the date of application, and the certification must be the one issued in 1month as of the date of application.)
⑦ one copy of certificate of sponsorship from a Korean citizen(when required).
⑧ one notarized copy of family relationship certificate in English.
⑨ one copy of certificate of IDcard of both the applicant and parents.
⑩ one original copy of certification of Employment/Income of the parents.
※ All notarized documents are valid within one year
and financial certificate documents within one month (30 days).

① One copy of the student and the parents’ national identification card
② One copy of HUKOUBU registration form (family register)
③ Certificate of employment and income of parents (original copy)
④ Certificate of sponsorship from a Korean citizen (notarized)
※ All notarized documents are valid within one year
and financial certificate documents within one month (30 days).

※ If you are sending via email, you need to submit the scanned file of the documents. The school may request for the original document if deemed necessary.

3) Application for visa
Students who have been accepted can apply for short-term multiple visa (C-3) and general training visa (D-4). C-3 visa is valid for up to 90 days and you must change to D-4 visa if you plan to continue studying.

4) Application procedures
Download the application form(kli.dongduk.ac.kr) → Submit the application form and other application documents via e-mail, fax or mail +Pay registration fee → Paper screening and interview → Notification of admission → Pay tuition and housing fee → Issuance of acceptance → Application for visa → Entry to Korea → Placement test
∙ Documents must be received three months prior to the first day of school by postage mail, email, or in person.
∙ If you are sending via email, you need to submit the scanned file of the documents. The school may request for the original document if deemed necessary.
∙ If you are using postage mail, you are recommended to use mail service which provides delivery confirmation like EMS.

5) Tuition
∙ Application fee: 60,000 won (not refundable)
∙ Tuition: 1,300,000 won per semester (textbooks/housing not included)
∙ Accommodations available: dormitories or safe and convenient housing off-campus

6) Insurance is required
・All students must be enrolled in insurance.
(Exceptions: if you have insurance in your home country, you must submit the proof of insurance in documents)
・Insurance fee may vary according to age and gender, and the fee must be wire transferred together with the tuition.

Refund Policies

14 days or more before the first day of class Full tuition refunded
13 days or less before the first day of class - less than 1/3 of total school days 2/3 tuition refunded

After 1/2 or more of total school days have passed non-refundable

1) Tuition for the first two enrolled semesters are not refundable for new students who have received D4 visas.
2) If you have valid reasons such as visa denial or enrollment for undergraduate program, the full amount is refundable.
3) Students requesting for refund must come to the administrative office in the Korean Language Institute of DWU and fill out the application form for refund.
In order to fill out the application form for refund, students must bring the copy of the bank account to receive the refund, identification forms (passport, alien registration card/your or your agent’s identification card), and a letter of attorney (if you want an agent to receive the refund).
